RODENT FLOURESCENT TRACKING POWDER

1 min read

Rodent fluorescent tracking powder is a non-toxic diagnostic tool used by pest professionals to trace the exact travel paths, runways, and entry points of mice and rats. When a rodent walks through the applied dust, the powder clings to its fur and paws, leaving a luminous trail that is easily visible under an ultraviolet (UV) blacklight.

How It Works

  • Application: A very light dusting of the fluorescent powder is applied in areas where rodent activity is suspected—such as along baseboards, near entry holes, corners, and attic access points. It is frequently placed on cardboard or inside tamper-proof bait stations so the rodent must walk through it.

  • Tracking: As the rodent travels back to its nest or hiding spots, it sheds the powder, leaving visible footprints, tail marks, and fur smudges.

  • Detection: After dark or in a dark room, a UV flashlight (blacklight) is used to illuminate the glowing powder trails. This helps pinpoint the exact walls they travel inside, the beams they climb, and the cracks they use to get in and out of the structure.

Common Product Options

  • Dedicated UV Powders: Specialized fluorescent pigments (often bright orange or green) are sold in jars specifically for pest control tracking.

  • Pre-Treated Fibers: Products like RodoFiber utilize cotton-blend materials coated in a non-toxic fluorescent powder. These are placed inside bait stations so the powder passively coats the rodent as it enters.

  • Fluorescent Baits: Rodenticides like Contrac with Lumitrack pass the glowing capability through the rodent, making their droppings glow brightly under a UV light so you can identify exactly where they are defecating.

Happy trails!
